YIKES!!
Well, I did not expect this to happen.
At work, they have announcements, news, etc. on the Group Health intranet. They asked us the staff to submit what is the best part of working for GHC?
Well, I submitted. I had forgotten about it until I got an email telling me that my submission was picked. In the diversity section of working for GHC. Now they want a picture of me!!! EEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!
I wrote that I think GH is very deaf friendly place to work. They get interpreters for deaf employees for meetings, etc. Also very deaf friendly all around to the deaf patients. Also good morale of work because we get appreciated for our work done. I can't remember the exact words but it is at work and as soon as it gets published, I will post it here.
Well, I also just remember that when I worked at Nordstrom, it was too a deaf friendly place to work too.
GH is really a fantastic place to work for. They said they will get me a TDD if I even request one. Altho I don't need it at this point, I can always go to co worker's desk and use her tdd. I have sidekick with me, and there are emails and internet relay so it's easy. TDDs are partically obsolete (spell?)
They even got an interpreter for work lunch to get better acquainted with new employee. I thought this was really awesome, so I wouldn't feel left out. Also they had interpreter for the picnic. I am just in so much awe from all this, even tho I went thru this at Nordstrom too. It has been 12 years since I left Nordstrom into Pacific Northwest Title Company.
PNWT sucked in accommodating deaf employees. In 1999, when we converted from WANG to windows/WORD. They had classes for all employees BUT ME!!! GRRRRRRRR .... saying too much money for an interpreter!! I was too afraid to stand up for myself back then. They also never get interpreters for meetings, whether spontaneous or not. They always had co workers write for me and it was hard because the writer could barely hear the prez of company talking. Also doesn't write word for word, just summarize it. and I miss out on a lot.
UGH!!!! I'm so glad to be away from that hellhole place called PNWT.
I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE working at Group Health!! In 2009 I will have been with Group Health as a member/patient for 36 years (all my life in WA) and never had anything else. Did have Aetna for 4 months this year before I went to work for Group Health. Did not like it. Although I liked my new Doctor, Dr. Rochier, but when I went to him to seek help with my weight issues. He said sorry, he couldn't help me, never even suggested weight loss surgery. Grrrr.
Then after I got the job at GH, I went to my old doctor (he was happy to see me back).. I told him I was considering lapband and he was very supportive and got right down to writing paperwork for submission!! WHOO!! I've had the same doctor for 18 years now.
So, I hope to find a deaf friendly employer down in FL when I move.
I am addicted to facebook, especially high school classmates, their posting old pics, etc.. it's fun to look at blast from the past! :)
I don't do myspace as much now after I joined facebook.
Oh yeah 38 days left until the lapband!!!! YIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!
